Palma de Mallorca Cruise Port: What Can You Walk To?
Palma has a Gothic cathedral built on the seafront so that its sandstone glows over the water, and Gaudí spent a decade remodelling the inside of it.
- Can you walk it?
- Yes — walkable from the ship — yes, after a 3 km walk or shuttle
- Where ships dock
- Porto Pi, about 3–4 km west of the centre.
- Pier to town
- 40 minutes on foot along the seafront, or a bus/shuttle in ten.
- Typical time ashore
- Often a homeport; calls vary from 8 hours to overnight.
La Seu is the reason to come ashore: 44 metres to the vault, the largest Gothic rose window in the world at 12 metres across, and a canopy over the altar designed by Gaudí when he was called in to modernise the interior in 1904. Around it the old town is a walkable Arab-and-Catalan tangle with patios, a preserved hammam and a cheap, excellent market.

What to see on foot in Palma de Mallorca
La Seu Cathedral
Built over 300 years on the site of a mosque. Gaudí reworked the interior from 1904; the rose window throws a projected image onto the opposite wall twice a year.
The Arab Baths
A tenth-century hammam in a private garden, one of the very few visible remnants of Muslim Mallorca.
Bellver Castle
A rare circular Gothic castle on a wooded hill above the port — about 40 minutes uphill from the waterfront and worth it for the view.
Mercat de l'Olivar
The city market: fish, jamón, and a tapas counter used by people who live here.
Passeig del Born and the old town patios
The main promenade and the courtyards behind it, many of which you can peer into through open gates.
Planning the day
Shuttle or bus in, do the cathedral first, then the Arab Baths and the old town patios, and the market for lunch. Bellver Castle is the add-on if you want a climb — it is roughly halfway back towards the port.
What to watch out for
Porto Pi is genuinely 3–4 km out and the seafront walk is exposed. The cathedral closes to visitors on Sundays and during services.
All-aboard is not the departure time. It is usually 30 to 60 minutes earlier, and a ship waits only for its own excursions. Plan any route to be back at the pier with an hour in hand.
Questions about the Palma de Mallorca port day
Can you walk from Palma cruise port to the cathedral?
Yes, about 3.5 km along the seafront, roughly 40 minutes and flat. Buses and ship shuttles do it in ten minutes and most people take one in and walk back.
What is special about Palma's cathedral?
It has the largest Gothic rose window in the world, at about 12 metres, and Gaudí remodelled the interior between 1904 and 1914 — including the wrought-iron canopy over the altar.
What is a self-guided walking tour?
A route you walk on your own schedule, with the commentary delivered to your phone instead of by a guide. There is no meeting point and no group — you start when you want, stop as long as you like at anything that interests you, and skip anything that does not.
How long are the tours?
You choose: 30 minutes, one hour, two hours, or three and more. The route is planned to fit the time, including how long you say you want to spend at each stop.
Does it work offline?
You need a connection to plan the tour and to stream the narration for each stop. Once a stop's audio has played it is cached by your browser, but plan for having data where you are walking.
